My Kitchen

I often complain to anyone who will listen about how tiny my kitchen is.  I suppose by comparison to some New York kitchens, mine is grand, but this is a “downsized” version of my previous beauty with a most beautiful gas stove.  My building doesn’t have gas, so no gas stove.  :( I also don’t have much of a pantry nor a spice cabinet.

Kitchen and Pantry

As you can see, I have a galley style kitchen.  The ceiling measures 8 foot by 8 foot.  But rather small for a continuously long counter. You can also see that my pantry is really a bookcase (from Ikea) that’s inside my coat closet.  Yes, that’s one of my coats hanging right next to my pots.  I ran out of room in the cabinets and had to resort to creative measures so I just attached two heavy-duty hooks to the bookcase and viola!  The two (you can only see one, but there really are two) shelves above the coats are also used for kitchen items storage. Getting things out of the pantry is quite a juggling act.  It’s seriously funny to watch me balance a bunch of jars just to get to one in the back.

Here is a closer view of the kitchen.  That big mug (with a dog on it) can hold  nearly two cups and is perfect for hot chocolate. See that little crock-pot behind the teapot?  That’s the one I use to make crock-pot oatmeal.

You can also see that I have enough light to do what I need to do, but not enough for decent pictures.  And the colors of my kitchen and dining room are very warm, I call the color scheme “Tuscan Sunset” though I’ve never been to Tuscany.  But you can see why all my pictures are a little more “yellow” or have a warmer tone that if I had direct sunlight.

You can also see that my stove is a glass top electric range.  When I bought it I was very happy with it.  I still am except I can’t use cast iron pots on it (like Lodge) because they can scratch the glass top.  And it’s pretty tough to clean up if you don’t do it right away.  And I rarely do it right away ’cause it’s hot and after the stove cools off, I’m too tired to clean.
